resetting my 2020 goals | wed 22.07.20

Right this is day 2 - meaning that I don't have to go back and edit my previous post and remove the part about it being a 'new habit'. Hopefully this sticks, I've written it into my habit tracker, so fingers crossed!

Possibly one of the most frustrating parts of this pandemic (besides, you know, health, finances and every other part of general wellbeing) has been it's disruption with any plans/goals. In late December I set out some specific goals that included 3 things I wanted to achieve and 3 things I wanted to improve. The list is as follows:

Achieve:
1. Complete a park run (weekly 5km runs held in various locations)
2. Run 10km for a charity
3. Climb Snowdon

Improve:
1. General fitness
2. Wake up early
3. Be more productive

The 'improve' goals do not have any specification on how to action them, but I would say that in general I have improved in each of these areas already this year.

HOWEVER
When it comes to the 'achieve' goals, they're dead in the water currently. I ran my first and only park run in late December, with a number of stops-and-starts. Since then, I have run 5km (super impressive, I know. Today, mere beginning short-mid distance runner, tomorrow the Olympics) but this was right at the start of lockdown and I haven't gone for a proper run since.

I had booked onto a 10km run in London and was supposed to be running it for Alzheimer’s Research, which has since been cancelled and postponed, and I certainly have not been training. In all likelihood, I've regressed in running ability! Further, the race has been postponed to when I am supposed to in my first week back at University, and thus won't be wanting to travel down to London to run.

Gutted. Such a shame. Very upset. There's always next year.

Finally, climbing Snowdon.
I was so excited to do this after I had thought of the idea, and only put it on this list because my boyfriend was not at all interested in doing the climb with me. So really, this is here to encourage (read: 'force') him to do it too! Sadly, no plans have been made for this and we've booked to go elsewhere for a short while in August so I don't think we'll be doing this in 2020 either.

So... now what? I think these 2020 plans need revamping. 2020 isn't dead or over because of COVID, we're only half way through the year. Time to spruce these goals up and potentially make them a little harder!

Achieve:
1. Complete my first term of 3rd year with a 1st class average
2. Set a weekly task list for my youtube channel and blog, and stick. to. it.
3. Read 25 books by the end of the year. I'm currently on 10.

All of these are fairly achievable, although will all require proper work and commitment to get them done.

Maybe now is a good time to rethink what goals you have/had for 2020, and ask the following questions:
  • Which of these things are now out of the question? (due to time of year, COVID, finances etc)
  • Do these goals need to be replaced or can they be adjusted?
  • What things would I like to improve/achieve in order to be the best version of  myself or to feel a sense of accomplishment?
  • What could I do to end the year feeling worse within myself and with bad habits? (then use this for inspiration to do the opposite!)
Thank you for reading! I'll be back here tomorrow!
